Letting go of stress
Stress, the ultimate inner terrorist, holds each of us hostage in its clutches everyday. In times like these, who isn’t stressed? You try to relax and something life-threatening is announced on the TV news. A headline in a morning paper warns you of the dangers surrounding you. Your mind instantly races to conjure all kinds of scenarios. What’s going to happen? And when? Will I be safe if it does happen? Your brain spins like a gerbil on daily time wheels, spinning your thoughts, hopes, and fears in all directions. Wouldn’t it be great to get off the time wheel and let go of all those tensions?
Here's how:
Try this any time and anywhere, as often as you like, to instantly release tension so your brain can quiet, your body can relax, and your blood pressure remain level. If you are seated at an office desk, on an airplane, in a subway, car or bus, in a busy restaurant, at school or home- place your hands on anything inanimate- the arms of the chair or seat, the table, desk, steering wheel, even your cell phone, and place your feet on the ground or floor. Let all tensions flow down your arms, and legs and out through your hands and feet into the inanimate object and floor. You don’t have to think about them at all. You may sense or feel the tension, or you may feel nothing at all. Your body is naturally releasing accumulated tension with ease. Close your eyes, open your eyes, talk while you’re releasing, no one has to know what you are doing. Just let the tension go. You will find you will feel more energetic, alive, and restored. Try this simple exercise whenever and as often and long as you wish. You’ll find yourself feeling instantly calmer, more relaxed, and comfortable in any situation.
